Many fishing charters, tour boats and kayak rentals operate out of the Valdez harbor. Valdez is a community with a population of about 4,000 and is the southern terminus of both the Richardson Highway and the trans-Alaska pipeline.
It is a popular launch point for fishing in the summer and backcountry skiing and snowboarding in the winter. The town is also near several glaciers and has a rich history.
