Nenana Visitor Center in Nenana, Alaska

The Alaskan Gallery and Nenana Visitor Center is a great place to stop and see local photography and gifts. The sod-roofed visitor center is located at the junction of the Parks Highway and A Street in Nenana, Alaska. This small town is located between Healy and Fairbanks.

The visitor center is an interesting spot to stop for a picnic or a walk, because it has picnic tables and restrooms beside the restored Taku Chief. This little tugboat plied the waters of the Tanana, Yukon and Koyukuk rivers for many years.

Visitors to the center can also see a replica of the Nenana Ice Classic tripod. Nenana is best known for the Nenana Ice Classic, an annual event that awards cash prizes to the lucky winners who guess the exact minute of the ice breakup on the Tanana River. The contest has been a spring highlight since 1917.
