Hatcher Pass in the Mat Su Valley

Hatcher Pass Road is a highly recommended summer side trip for travelers on the Glenn Highway. This route is a 49-mile-long road that loops over Hatcher Pass (elev. 3,886 feet) between the Glenn and Parks highways. The scenic alpine country on this route is beautiful on a clear day.

Attractions on this route include the historic Independence Mine and scenic Summit Lake. Popular summer activities along this road include hiking, biking, paragliding, gold panning and berry picking. Hatcher Pass is a popular winter sports area for snow machining and cross-country skiing. Both Gold Mint and Fishhook trailheads are used by snow machines in winter.
