Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories

Visitors enjoy a view of the Arctic Ocean from the remote community of Tuktoyaktuk. Klondike Loop travelers can enjoy a long and scenic side trip to this remote community via the Dempster and Inuvik–Tuktoyaktuk highways.

The 87-mile-long Inuvik–Tuktoyaktuk Highway provides year-round connection between Inuvik, on the Mackenzie River, to the community of Tuktoyatuk on the Arctic Ocean. This all-weather 2-lane gravel road replaced the former winter ice road that connected the 2 communities when it opened in November 2017. The Inuvik–Tuktoyaktuk Highway is located at the end of the Dempster Highway, which can be driven in 10 to 14 hours. The Dempster Highway begins about 25 miles east of Dawson City, Yukon Territory on the Klondike Highway.
